join Her by walking, those ancient ways of wisdom, when nature was known divine manifestation
Inspired by Jeremiah 6:16
Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the ancient paths. What is the good way? Then walk in it and find a resting place for yourselves.
How do we join Woman Wisdom at the crossroads and follow Her ancient way? This question has been with me since that visceral vision of Her clinging to Her beloveds in a wailing, wild, and angered grief on Piñon’s windy hill.
The sages who compiled the wisdom literature of the Hebrew Bible and the prophets who lived in the desert wilderness knew how to discern the Living Wisdom from the natural world around them. Looking to nature to discern how we must live with one another in a way that reflects our Source is an ancient way of deep re-membering. Re-membering that Wild from which we emerged.
Looking to Piñon and Juniper, I hope to re-member that desert wilderness way. One can often find Piñon and Juniper, old and young, dancing together in a delicate and harmonious balance under the high desert sun. Together they sustain the unique ecosystem that can survive in the high desert, attracting the creatures which help spread their seeds and keep the cyclical dance of life going. They find a way in this desert wilderness where there was none, and, with that way, they bring new life. That way certainly is not an easy way, and at times, it may be utterly bleak and hopeless.
And yet, here in the evening light, new life emerges on this seemingly dry and near-death branch of Juniper. And as I write, my twisted Friend continues to nourish new life, young Piñon and young Juniper, and Yucca, below Her.
Keeper of Ancient Knowing, enlighten me
Keeper of Ancient Knowing
inbreaking the matrix of space and time
enlighten me to Your way
help me to re-member
Your wisdom in desert wilderness
Your life-giving dance in juniper and piñon
so that i may join You
on that ancient path
the one our ancestors walked
when we saw You in all the land
